A proposed new eight-story residential building in Greenpoint will have a hearing today Wednesday, Sept. 19, before Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.

Markowitz’s staff, who will hear from representatives of the developer, McGuinness Realty Corp., will consider the application for a zoning change from a manufacturing (M1-1) district to a residential (R7A) district to allow the new development.

The property is bounded by Greenpoint Avenue, McGuinness Boulevard, Calyer Street and a line midway between McGuinness and Eckford Street.

The applicant also requests that the proposed rezoning area be identified as an inclusionary housing designated area.

The proposed eight-story building will contain approximately 140 housing units, 68 parking spaces and 23,000 square feet of commercial or retail space.

The hearing, part of the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP), will take place beginning at 5 p.m. in the Court Room at Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon St. in Downtown Brooklyn.
