Brooklyn Arts Council presents fall programs for 1-Year anniversary of Sandy
Commemorating the 1st anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) will present two public programs this fall: For & About: Art & Reactions to Superstorm Sandy and Scene: Brooklyn: Independent Film & Media Arts.
The group exhibition For & About: Art & Reactions to Superstorm Sandy, opening at BAC Gallery on Friday, Sept. 27 during the DUMBO Arts Festival, will feature works by 14 emerging Brooklyn-based visual artists. For & About includes work made for those who were and continue to be affected by the aftermath of the storm, and art made about the storm and its impact. It is BAC’s hope that the show will inspire, commemorate and remember all who were affected by the storm.
BAC’s Scene: Brooklyn film series commemorates the 1st anniversary of Superstorm Sandy by showcasing films by Brooklyn filmmakers or films that were principally shot in the borough that are either direct responses to the storm, inspired by the storm and its aftermath or films that address related issues of waterfront development, disaster relief and climate change. To date, BAC has received over 175 submissions from local filmmakers for the series, which will run from Oct. 26 – 29 at various venues in DUMBO and Williamsburg to coincide with the anniversary.
