Brooklyn Bar Association honors the late Hon. Theodore T. Jones at golf outing

On November 6, 2012, Honorable Theodore T. Jones, a noted member of the judiciary, an esteemed member of the legal community, and a beloved husband and father, passed away from a sudden onset heart attack. A member of the New York State Court of Appeals, the highest court in the state of New York, Jones was known for being personable, extremely knowledgeable on the law, and a fair jurist. Jones was also known for his passion for golf.

Honoring their colleague and friend, the Brooklyn Bar Association hosted its first annual “Theodore T. Jones, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament” Monday, April 29th at the Colonia Country Club in Colonia, New Jersey.

“The relationship the judge had with the Brooklyn Bar Association was a special one,” Domenick Napoletano, the president of the Brooklyn Bar Association, previously told the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. “Judge Jones would often joke that Brooklyn’s Bar Association was his favorite out of all of the bar associations.”

Approximately 30 teams of 4 registered for the 18-hole course golf outing. Despite rainy and cold weather, each team departed in their respective golf carts and enjoyed the day.

“This did not start out as a golf event,” said John Lonuzzi, a past president of the Brooklyn Bar Association. “This event was scheduled and planned when Judge Jones was still with us. He set the place, he set the schedule,” Lonuzzi continued during the evening’s dinner reception.

In addition to the 30 foursomes registered, 30 additional people were dinner-only guests, noted Avery Eli Okin, executive director of the Brooklyn Bar Association. “The turnout today was a testament to how much Judge Jones meant to the BBA,” said Lonuzzi. “[Judge Jones’] memory and his legacy will forever have a home at the BBA.”
