Fiona Maazel, Brooklyn-based author of “Last Last Chance,” will appear at powerHouseArena in DUMBO tonight, April 3, to launch her second novel “Woke Up Lonely.” Already receiving widespread praise, “Woke Up Lonely” follows the story of Thurlow Dan, a man who has made it his mission to combat loneliness.

Thurlow founds the Helix – which promotes human connection by organizing speed-dating events, communes, and even a social website that encourages oversharing as a means of evading loneliness – yet despite his resolve, Thurlow himself is consumed by emptiness. He is still fixated on his ex-wife, a CIA agent who continues to thwart his efforts to feel happy and complete. In his attempts to win back his ex-wife, Thurlow winds up involved in a hostage situation.

With moments of humor and suspense, “Woke Up Lonely” investigates what it means to feel alone in contemporary America.

Fiona Maazel, author of “Last Last Chance,” is winner of the Bard Prize for Fiction. Her work has appeared in BOMB, Bookforum, N+1, the New York Times Book Review, Tin House, and many other publications. She teaches at Brooklyn College, New York University, Princeton, and Columbia, and was appointed the Picador Guest Professor at the University of Leipzig, Germany. Maazel lives in Brooklyn.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. powerHouse Arena is located at 37 Main St. in DUMBO.
