On Tuesday, April 23, specially selected Givers all over the U.S., the U.K., Ireland, and Germany will give away great books to those who might not otherwise encounter them. Now in its third year, World Book Night is a celebration of reading, made possible by authors, publishers, readers, and bookstores and libraries around the country and around the world. Fort Greene’s Greenlight Bookstore is a participating bookstore, and tonight, Wednesday, April 17, they’ll hand over cartons of books to World Book Night Givers to give away next Tuesday. To mark the occasion, Greenlight has asked local authors and literary folks to read from selected books on this year’s World Book Night title list:
  • Paul Elie (author of Reinventing Bach) reads The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
  • Josh Farrar (author of A Song for Bijou) reads Looking for Alaska by John Green
  • Jessica Hagedorn (author of Toxicology) reads The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
  • Paul Holdengraber (host of Live At The NYPL) reads Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
  • Dave Isay (founder of StoryCorps) reads TBA
  • Angel Nafis (author of BlackGirl Mansion) reads Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward
  • Toure (author of I Would Die 4 U) reads Bossypants by Tina Fey
  • Matt Weiland (editor of State By State) reads The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
