Brooklyn Bookbeat: Fort Greene bookstore to host World Book Night kickoff tonight

On Tuesday, April 23, specially selected Givers all over the U.S., the U.K., Ireland, and Germany will give away great books to those who might not otherwise encounter them. Now in its third year, World Book Night is a celebration of reading, made possible by authors, publishers, readers, and bookstores and libraries around the country and around the world. Fort Greene's Greenlight Bookstore is a participating bookstore, and tonight, Wednesday, April 17, they'll hand over cartons of books to World Book Night Givers to give away next Tuesday. To mark the occasion, Greenlight has asked local authors and literary folks to read from selected books on this year’s World Book Night title list:
  • Paul Elie (author of Reinventing Bach) reads The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
  • Josh Farrar (author of A Song for Bijou) reads Looking for Alaska by John Green
  • Jessica Hagedorn (author of Toxicology) reads The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros
