Brooklyn College To Celebrate Anniversary Of Shirley Chisholm’s Presidential Bid
BROOKLYN COLLEGE — The Shirley Chisholm Project of Brooklyn Women’s Activism, housed at Brooklyn College, will celebrates the 40th anniversary of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm’s historic bid for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination with a conference, “Be a Catalyst for Change: Shirley Chisholm’s Lifelong Legacy,” on Thursday, March 29, at the college.
Highlighting the conference will be Melissa Harris-Perry, MSNBC host and Tulane professor; and the Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who was a young activist in Chisholm’s 1972 presidential campaign.
In remembering Chisholm, a staunch feminist, childcare and healthcare advocate and opponent of the Vietnam War, her message is as relevant now as it was 40 years ago.
