FLATBUSH — Brooklyn College’s Department of Theater will present Nicky Silver’s The Altruists.  This tale of romance and politics focuses on a group of hopelessly self-centered protesters and the people who love them.

Ronald’s latest project is to take a hot, young hustler under his wing. Cybil, a radical lesbian who seems surprisingly disinterested in women, tries to extricate herself from Audrey. And Sydney throws everyone in a tizzy when she shoots her boyfriend in his sleep. Meanwhile, no one can quite remember what they’re supposed to be protesting next.

Josh Penzell (director) will graduate with an M.F.A. in directing from Brooklyn College this May.  He has extensive regional directing credits and is a resident director for the New York City-based theater company Making Books Sing.  Penzell is an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) and was recently an SDC Observer on I Do! I Do! at Westport Country Playhouse, directed by Susan H. Schulman.  He holds a B.S. in Theater from Northwestern University.

Performances of The Altruists take place March 22 to 25, Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., at the New Workshop Theater on the Brooklyn College campus, Campus Road between Hillel Place and Avenue H, Brooklyn.

For reservations, please call (718) 951-4500 or visit the Department of Theater web page at http://depthome.brooklyn.cuny.edu/theater.
