Brooklyn man forgiven but imprisoned for DWI death

RIVERHEAD (AP) — The widow of a New York City police officer has forgiven the drunken Brooklyn driver who killed him while going the wrong way on a Long Island highway.

Michael Bowen of Brooklyn pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide and other charges in the November 2010 head-on crash.

Officer Andre Menzies was driving home from work when he was killed on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills.

Newsday says Bowen was so drunk that he thought he was in Westchester County.

A Suffolk County judge sentenced Bowen this week to 6 to 19 years in prison.

A tearful Natasha Menzies said both her husband and Jesus would have forgiven Bowen, so she did, too.
