BROOKLYN (AP) — A Brooklyn man held for almost a year on a rape charge and sex trafficking has been released from jail until his trial.

According to The New York Times , a judge said Thursday there appeared to be problems with the credibility of his accuser.

Damien Crooks is the second man in the case to be released in the last two weeks.

Brooklyn prosecutors acknowledged the accuser had recanted part of her story almost immediately after telling police she had been raped.

Crooks was arrested with three others last year and accused of committing sex crimes against the woman over nearly a decade.

Prosecutors say Crooks still faces four counts of rape and two of sex trafficking.

The case against the other released defendant is expected to be dismissed.
