Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced this weekend that murders fell in Brooklyn below 200 last year for the first time since 1963. He announced it at a gun buyback event in Crown Heights that was held with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office.

“Murders in Brooklyn fell to below 200, to 195, for the first time in nearly a half-century in part because of concerted efforts to get guns off the streets in partnerships like these,” said Kelly.
