Brooklyn prosecutor suspended for allegedly trying to fight cop

Kings County Assistant District Attorney Yaser Othman (above) has been suspended following a weekend arrest for allegedly trying to punch a cop in Queens. Othman, 41, was pulled over Saturday night for recklessly driving on the Whitestone Expressway, according to police. When the prosecutor refused to exit his 2002 Mitsubishi Galant, according to police, the officer attempted to physically remove Othman, causing Othman to take a swing at the sergeant, but missed.

Othman was charged with numerous misdemeanors, including reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and attempted assault, as well as possession of marijuana for a joint allegedly found inside his vehicle. Othman, who graduated from CUNY Law School and was admitted to the bar in 2010, worked in the Orange Trial Zone at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. He was arraigned Sunday night and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court on July 24, at which point he will be representing himself, he said.
