Happy New Year, Brooklyn.

A new Mayor (one of Brooklyn's own), a new Borough President, a new lineup in the City Council – we'll see how it all plays out on the Brooklyn development scene.

Other people make lists of New Year's resolutions. We prefer a Development Tracker list of sites to watch in 2014.

What becomes of Long Island College Hospital's real estate tops the list – followed by which high-rise developer gets chosen to tear down the Brooklyn Heights Branch Library, and how the final redevelopment design for much-loved, decrepit Empire Stores turns out.

(Brooklynites have until Jan. 17 to offer online comment on the library site development proposals, as the Brooklyn Eagle recently reported.)

The planned makeover of the DUMBO Watchtower buildings which the Kushner Cos. and RFR bought in 2013 is right up there as big news in the making.

So is the luxury rebuild of the Bossert Hotel, another former Watchtower property, whose reopening is expected to re-energize the Montague Street restaurant and retail scene. On Christmas Eve, the city Buildings Department approved the latest set of plans for interior work on the landmark property.

The continuing progress of residential and retail mega-project CityPoint on Fulton Mall bears watching. So does the start of work at the historic Domino Sugar site in Williamsburg, and at the massive Lightstone residential project in Gowanus, too.

In addition to these major headliners, other intriguing projects promise to have an impact in Brooklyn neighborhoods. We're posting a status update on several of them, as a first step in keeping track.
