A college student who was beaten into a coma at an off-campus bar in upstate New York is working as an accountant and preparing to run the New York City Marathon.

Bryan Steinhauer tells NBC 4 New York that his biggest challenge is his speech.

The Brooklyn resident was a student at Binghamton University when he was assaulted by fellow student Miladin Kovacevic in 2008.

Kovacevic jumped bail in the U.S. and fled to Serbia. He served two years in prison and was freed last November

Steinhauer said one of the first steps of recovery is to let go of anger.
