Good morning. Today is the 116th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of April 26, 1899, reported that the U.S. Navy’s North Atlantic Squadron, which had been cruising in the West Indies for several months, was headed to the Brooklyn Navy Yard for repairs and a general overhaul. The squadron was made up of five ships, the Brooklyn, the New York, the Indiana, the Massachusetts and the Texas. From Brooklyn, the squadron was scheduled to head for Newport, Rhode Island.
Well-known people who were born today include musician Duane Eddy (“Rebel Rouser,” “Rumble”), singer Bobby Rydell (“Volare,” “Wild One”), actress Carol Burnett (“The Carol Burnett Show”) and actor Giancarlo Esposito (“Do the Right Thing,” “Twilight”).
