Good morning. Today is the 236th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Aug. 23, 1901, reported that “prominent Brooklyn lawyer William M. Dykman, of the firm Bergen & Dykman, has come home from the Thousand Islands suffering from appendicitis.” The firm later evolved into Dykman, Oeland & Kuhn. Since retired judge Edward M. Cullen later joined the firm, we can be reasonably sure it was the ancestor of the well-known Brooklyn law firm Cullen & Dykman.

Well-known people who were born today include basketball player Kobe Bryant, actress Barbara Eden (“I Dream of Jeannie”), actress Vera Miles (“The Wrong Man,”’Psycho”), former U.S. Surgeon General Antonia Novello, political comedian Mark Russell and singer Rick Springfield.
