Good morning. Today is the 239th day of the year. On this day in 1878, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle printed an article on “Green-Wood Cemetery as a Popular Resort.” “Very many people,” the article said, “go to the cemetery on the weekend because the quiet sylvan beauty is charming and restful after the cares of the week, and a stroll through the shady alleys of the cemetery put one in a better frame of mind for the business that lies before him.” The article also described the cemetery’s main attractions, such as Battle Hill and some of the monuments.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman), singer Tommy Sands (“Teenage Crush”), baseball player Jim Thome, actress Tuesday Wald (“The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis”) and musician Daryl Dragon (the “Captain” of the Captain and Tenille).
