Brooklyn Daily Eagle
Good morning. Today is the 240th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Aug. 28, 1878 ran an article about “The Daring Exploits of Artisans on the Bridge Wires,” the “bridge” being the Brooklyn Bridge, which was then under construction. “Their positions were perilous in the extreme, and those who are appalled by the `man on the flying trapeze’ in the circus must have been terror-stricken as they gazed on the hardy artisans dangling in mid-air. The artisans themselves took it in stride,” the Eagle wrote.
Well-known people who were born today include former baseball manager Lou Piniella, singer LeAnn Rimes, actor Jason Priestly (“Beverly Hills 90210”), actor David Soul (“Starsky and Hutch”) and former baseball player Ron Guidry.
