Good morning. Today is the 221st day of the year. On this day in 1901, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported on what amounted to one of the first moves toward bus services. In Manhattan between the Wall Street and Cortlandt Street ferries, the newspaper announced, Locomobile would offer “wagonette” services for 10 cents per ride. “The providers hope to offer wagonette service in other areas of the city where trolley service is scarce,” the Eagle reported. Locomobile, an early car manufacturer, lasted until 1929 but got out of the bus business fairly early.
