Good morning. Today is the 220th day of the year. On this day in 1901, a trolley car going at full speed crashed into a farmer’s wagon at the intersection of Fulton and Thatford streets in East New York. The wagon was “smashed to pieces,” and the passengers were all injured. After being treated at the scene, however, they all were able to return to their homes. According to witnesses, the accident was caused by the fact that the horses were trotting at a slow speed, and the driver of the streetcar wasn’t able to come to a stop in time.

Well-known people who were born today include musician The Edge of U2 (born David Evans), tennis player Roger Federer, Brooklyn-born actress and singer Connie Stevens (“Hawaiian Eye”) and country singer Mel Tillis.
