Good morning. Today is the 348th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Dec. 13, 1902, reported the discovery of the badly decomposed body of a man in “a grassy area near Neck Road.” At that time, the area was so undeveloped that police estimated that it had been there for six or seven weeks before an ambulance driver discovered it, although Neck Road itself was already a well-used thoroughfare.

Well-known people who were born today include Brooklyn-born actor Steve Buscemi (“Boardwalk Empire”), actor Jamie Foxx (“Ray,” “Jarhead”), singer-guitarist and gun-rights activist Ted Nugent (“Cat Scratch Fever”) and comedian Dick Van Dyke (“The Dick Van Dyke Show”).

The New York Aquarium is taking part in a toy drive for families who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. Since the Aquarium is temporarily closed, it will be accepting toy donations at Tom’s Diner, 1229 Boardwalk West, Coney Island.
Anyone who donates a new, unwrapped toy at this location through the end of this month will receive a general-admission ticket to the Bronx Zoo. Both the Zoo and the Aquarium are operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society.
