Good morning. Today is the 357th day of the year. On Dec. 23, 1900, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle carried an advertisement from Keene’s Watch Store, 140 Fulton St. The ad featured “Christmas watches” for $15 as well as diamond and gold watches, earrings and rings. The store advertised that it would be open on Christmas Eve until 10 p.m. In those days, watches all were wind-up models; watches with batteries weren’t invented until 1957.

Well-known people who were born today include Japanese Emperor Akihito, actress Susan Lucci (“All My Children”), actor Gerald O’Loughlin (“The Rookies”), poet and author Robert Bly (“Iron John”), hockey player Scott Gomez and British Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.
