Good morning. Today is the 15th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Jan. 15, 1902, carried a large article and photo about the installation of Dr. Frederick Burgess as the new bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. The ceremony took place at Grace Church in Brooklyn Heights, which is still active as a house of worship. In those days, weekly church attendance was much higher than it is today.
Well-known people who were born today include football player Drew Brees, actor Mario Van Peebles (“Love Kills,” “Judgment Day”), rapper-record producer Pitbull (Armando Christian Perez) and author Ernest J. Gains (“The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman”).
Doctors fighting to save Long Island College Hospital (LICH) in Brooklyn say that SUNY's plan to sell LICH's real estate to Fortis Property Group with an NYU-supplied "free-standing Emergency Department" is "smoke and mirrors."
