Good morning. Today is the 183rd day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of July 1, 1902, ran an article titled “Robbers Left House Loaded With Booty.” The would-be victim was John McNamara, a contractor with offices at 16 Court St and a brownstone house on Jefferson Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.  According to the Eagle, McNamara and his family were away in their summer house, but a private watchman inside the house noticed two people breaking into the basement and telephoned the police. Two police officers saw the burglars leaving the house carrying sacks of stolen items. The thieves tried to run away, but the officers gave chase and eventually arrested them.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Dan Akroyd (“Ghostbusters,” “Trading Places”), model-actress Pamela Anderson, singer Debbie Harry of Blondie, actress Leslie Caron (“Gigi,” “An American in Paris”), dancer-choreographer Twyla Tharp and Olympic track athlete Carl Lewis.
