ON THIS DAY in 1911, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Woman Crazed by Heat Lives Weeks in Hay Loft.”  The article focused on a woman who lived on horse food at the time as she reportedly disturbed her neighbors with groans and cries.
“After having existed in the hayloft of a barn for about two weeks, eating only hay, oats and other fodder for horses, who described herself as Vera Trevor and later said her name was Trevorwhich, gave a policeman a lively tussle this morning when she was disturbed from her hiding place and tried to stab the bluecoat with a pitchfork,” the article reported.  “The finding of the woman is expected to clear up the mystery which for some time past has surrounded the bar at 98 Humboldt St.”
