Good morning. Today is the 199th day of the year. On this day in 1902, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, a new ice-delivery firm, P. W. Meyers and Son, that had just expanded from Albany into Brooklyn, was being given a hard time by the Brooklyn Ice Exchange, representing the established ice dealers of the borough. Truckers allied with the Ice Exchange were refusing to deliver P. W. Meyers’ ice. In those days, before refrigeration, people relied on daily deliveries of ice to keep food fresh.

Well-known people who were born today include actress Lucie Arnaz, actor David Hasselhoff (“Baywatch”), singer-actress Diahann Carroll (“Dynasty”) and comedienne Phyllis Diller.

This evening at 8 p.m., the Brooklyn Community Conservatory Orchestra will present a free outdoor concert in Washington Park, behind the Old Stone House. The orchestra, led by music director Dorothy Savitch, will perform selections from “West Side Story” and “Porgy and Bess” as well as classical favorites such as Bizet’s “Carmen.” … The New York City Districting Commission, which affects Brooklyn as well as the other NYC boroughs, will hold its first organizational meeting at the City Council Chambers at City Hall at 6:30 p.m. Every 10 years, the commission redraws City Council district lines based on Census data.
