Good morning. Today is the 203rd day of the year. On this day in 1902, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported on the demand for a second subway tunnel from Brooklyn to Manhattan. The first tunnel, the route of the present-day 4 and 5 trains, was already in the planning stages, and the city had awarded the contract to the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT). The Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company (BRT) was asking the city to build a subway tunnel of its own to link some of its trolley and surface transit lines, which it planned to rebuild, to Manhattan. That second tunnel was eventually built as the Montague Street tunnel, which now carries to R train.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Nicholas Cage, actor Woody Harrelson, radio personality Don Imus, actor Marlon Wayans and former basektball player Gary Payton.
