ON THIS DAY in 1900, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Two Brooklyn Cars Struck by Lightning.” The article focused on a lightning storm, with bolts that struck two trolley cars on their way back from Canarsie the night before.
“When the bolt struck the car, the passengers, badly frightened, jumped and ran to the pavement,” the article reported.  “The blowing  out of the fuse cut off the current and stopped the car and the conductor at once sent in a call for an ambulance surgeon to relieve the injured passengers.”
