On this day in 1902, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported that police in Binghamton, N.Y., had captured one Charles Brawley, wanted for "buncoing," or cheating, a stockbroker. Apparently, Brawley had told the broker that he had won a won a lottery prize, but that the broker would have to lay out money first. The article continued that Brawley had run the same con game on another person in Brooklyn.
