Brooklyn Daily Eagle
Good morning. Today is the 164th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of June 13, 1897, carried an unusual ad for Pabst Milwaukee beer (Blue Ribbon beer was already being made, so apparently this was a different brew). It read, “Perfection in brewing has been reached in America, and Pabst has made it so!” Just to appeal to local beer drinkers, the ad also contained the words “New Amsterdam,” which were the Dutch name for New York.
Well-known people who were born today include conceptual artist Christo, actor Malcolm McDowell (“A Clockwork Orange,” “O Lucky Man”), actress Ally Sheedy (“St. Elmo’s Fire,” ‘The Breakfast Club”) and actor Richard Thomas (“The Waltons”).
