Good morning. Today is the 171st day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle for June 19, 1902, reports on plans to enlarge the Prospect Park Zoo, with the headline, “Central Park Zoo’s surplus to come here.” This “surplus” included a pair of zebras, a pair of Dorset sheep and a pair of fallow deer.

Well-known people who were born today include singer-dancer Paula Abdul, actor Andy Lauer, actress Poppy Montgomery (“Without a Trace”), actress Gena Rowlands (“Peyton Place”), actress Phylicia Rashad (“The Cosby Show”) and author Salman Rushdie (“The Satanic Verses,” “Midnight’s Children”).
