Good morning. Today is the 178th day  of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of June 26, 1899, carried an article about a Brooklyn merchant’s outrage over the fact that his goods, which were being shipped to Portuguese Southwest Africa, were seized by British gunboats. The action took place amid growing tensions between South Africa’s Dutch and British colonists.

Well-known people who were born today include singer-musician Chris Isaak, Yankees baseball player Derek Jeter, Hall of Fame football player Shannon Sharpe and author Charlotte Zolotow (“The Moon Was the Best”).
