The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of June 29, 2012, carried an article about an investigation into why police permitted a boxing match at an outing of the Greenpoint-based Seymour Democratic Club. Until about 1920, boxing was illegal in New York state, except inside athletic clubs. The boxers were described as Kid Dorsey and Bruiser Kennedy, both of Brooklyn.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Gary Busey (“The Buddy Holly Story”), actress Sharon Lawrence (“Fired Up,” “NYPD Blue”) and former Congressman and actor Fred Grandy.
