Good morning. Today is the 76th day of the year. On this day in 1957, “The Gumby Show” was first shown on TV. Gumby and his talking horse Pokey were clay figures whose adventures were early examples of the process of “claymation,” or clay animation.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Judah Friedlander (“30 Rock,” American Splendor), writer Alice Hoffman (Practical Magic), football player Todd Heap, comedian-actor Jerry Lewis (The Nutty Professor, the Bellboy, The King of Comedy) and game show host Chuck Woolery.
