Good morning. Today is the 69th day of the year. It is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Hampton Roads during the Civil War, in which two ironclad ships, the CSS Merrimac and the USS Monitor, exchanged fire for about two hours. Injuries on both sides forced commanders to pull back without a clear victory. Incidentally, the Monitor was built in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Well-known people who were born today include country singer Mickey Gilley, actress Joyce Van Patten, Brooklyn-born actor Emmanuel Lewis (“Webster”) and former baseball player Benito Santiago.
