Good morning. Today is the 122nd day of the year. On this day in 1941, Citizen Kane, Orson Welles’ directorial masterpiece, premiered at New York City’s RKO Palace. The premiere had been delayed almost three months due to studio fears about media magnate William Randolph Hearst’s reaction — since the film was a thinly disguised version of Hearst’s life. The film did not do well commercially, due to Hearst’s influence, but is now considered to be one of the greatest American films.

Well-known people who were born today include singer Judy Collins (“Both Sides Now”), singer Sonny James (“Young Love”), film director Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore) and singer Rita Coolidge.
