Good morning. Today is the 130th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle for May 10, 1901, carried an article with the headline, “Sheared Lambs Are Few in Brooklyn Offices.” The headline was referring not to sheep-shrearing, but to investors’ losses in the face of a “panic,” or downturn in the market. Apparently, Brooklyn investors had heeded the words of their brokers and not plunged in to the market over their heads.

Well-known people who were born today include singer Bono of U2, singer-songwriter Dave Mason, actor Gary Owens and author Barbara Taylor Bradford.
