Good morning. Today is the 136th day of the year. On this day in 1940, nylon stockings first went on sale in stores throughout the country — including Brooklyn’s Abraham & Straus (now Macy’s on Fulton Street). DuPont developed nylon, originally called “Polymer 66,” in 1935.

Well-known people who were born today include former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, avant-garde musician Brian Eno, singer-actress Lainie Kazan (“My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” “My Favorite Year”) and actor-screenwriter Chazz Palinteri (“A Bronx Tale”).
