Good morning. Today is the 313th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle for November 8, 1902, revealed that the stretch of the IRT subway (today’s 4 and 5 lines) on Fulton Street between Boerum Place and Flatbush Avenue would be built by the “cut and cover” method. This was in contrast to the earlier London subway system, which was built by tunneling deep underground.

Well-known people who were born today include singer Rickie Lee Jones (“Chuckie’s in Love”), TV journalist Morley Safer, actress Alfre Woodard, signer Patti Page (“Old Cape Cod,” “Doggie in the Window”) and business executive Christie Hefner (Playboy).
