Good morning. Today is the 319th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Nov. 13, 1912, reported that two large estates near Van Cortlandt Park in the northwest Bronx were being auctioned. It was covered in the Eagle because several Brooklyn-based builders were expected to be among those bidding for the properties. All over the city at that time, large estates were being broken up for single-family homes or apartment houses.
Well-known people who were born today include comedienne Whoopi Goldberg ("The Color Purple," "Sister Act," "Ghost"), actor Chris Noth ("Sex and the City," "Law and Order"), Brooklyn-born talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, and former football player Vinny Testaverde.
