Good morning. Today is the 319th day of the year. On Nov. 15, 1912, the Flatbush Board of Trade passed a resolution complaining that the cost of home insurance in Flatbush was 50 percent higher than it should have been. When the original rates were put into place, said Walter Brown, president of the group, there were few fire hydrants or firehouses in the area, and the railroad tracks (today’s B train) were still on the surface. Since that time, he said, the tracks had been removed to their own right-of-way, firehouses had been constructed, and “hydrants are everywhere.”

Well-known people who were born include singer Petula Clark (“Downtown,” “I Know a Place”), actor Ed Asner (“The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Lou Grant”), actor Yaphet Kotto (“Midnight Run,” “Blue Collar”) and actor Sam Waterston (“Law & Order,” “The Killing Fields,” “The Great Gatsby.”)
