Good morning. Today is the 323rd day of the year. On this day in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln gave his now-classic Gettysburg Address, which honored Union soldiers who fell on the battlefield in Gettysburg, Pa. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle published it the following day, but also published excerpts from the “Gettysburg Oration” given by orator and former Massachusetts  Governor Edward Everett. Everett’s two-hour speech was supposed to be the main event, but it was overshadowed by Lincoln’s much shorter speech.

Well-known people who were born today include Brooklyn-born TV talk show host Larry King, U.S. Sen. Thomas R. Harkin (D-Iowa), dancer-choreographer Savion Glover, former talk show host Dick Cavett and actress Jodie Foster (“The Silence of the Lambs,” “Taxi Driver”).
