Good morning. Today is the 328th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Nov. 21, 1900, quoted the principal of an East New York school as saying that the necessity of transferring from the Fulton Street and Broadway elevated lines to a circular “loop” connecting line at Broadway-East New York, and then to outbound shuttles, was discouraging some students from coming to school, and forcing some parents to move closer to Downtown Brooklyn. Within two years, through service replaced the unpopular loop at East New York. Some of the loop’s tracks were later used to connect the Canarsie Line, originally a surface railroad line, to the Broadway elevated, which still stands.

Well-known people who were born today include Icelandic singer-actress Bjork, former baseball player Ken Griffey Jr., Hall of fame baseball player Stan “the Man” Musial, and actress Marlo Thomas (“That Girl,” “Free to Be You and Me”).
