Good morning. Today is the 334th day of the year. Industrial activists are nothing new: according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Nov. 29, 1902, Frank Mac Travis, a machinist at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, was killed when he fell from narrow scaffolding around a smokestack at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Well-known people who were born today include former French Preisdent Jacques Chirac, producer-screenwriter Joel Coen (‘Fargo”) musician Chuck Mangione, musician John Mayall of the Bluesbreakers, baseball player Mariano Rivera and actress Cathy Moriarty (“The Mambo Kings,” “Raging Bull”).
