Good morning. Today is the 310th day of the year. On this day in 1894, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle ran a cartoon about the issue of consolidation with New York City titled, “The Lady or the Tiger?” The “tiger” represented Tammany Hall, the corrupt New York City Democratic political machine, and the cartoon represented the view that consolidation was only a tool to neutralize then-Republican Brooklyn.

Well-known people who were born today include singer-songwriter Bryan Adams, singer Art Garfunkel (Simon and Garfunkel), actress Tatum O’Neal (“Paper Moon,” “The Bad News Bears”), basketball player Jerry Stackhouse, playwright Sam Shepard (“Buried Child,” “the Right Stuff”) and Hall of Fame basketball player Bill Walton.
