Good morning. Today is the 303rd day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle for Oct. 30, 1850, reported that there were large demonstrations against the Fugitive Slave Law in Boston, Cleveland and Chicago. In Chicago, the City Council passed a resolution declaring it null and void. In Boston, there was almost a riot when the U.S. marshal for that city arrested two former Southern slaves who had escaped to that city.

Well-known people who were born today include biographer Robert Caro (“Robert Moses: The Power Broker,” “The Years of Lyndon Johnson”), soccer coach Diego Maradona, actor Dick Gautier (“Bye Bye Birdie”), singer Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane (“White Rabbit,” “Somebody to Love”) and actor Henry Winkler (“Happy Days”).
