Good morning. Today is the 253rd day of the year. On Sept. 10, 1910, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle issued its Educational Supplement, which was a guide to schools of all types throughout the borough. The supplement listed not only public and private K-8 schools and high schools, but dancing schools,  business schools, music schools, colleges, law schools, pharmacy schools, normal schools (colleges for teachers), elocution schools (which taught people how to speak properly) and more. Social dancing and playing musical instruments were considered important social skills for all middle-class young people..

Well-known people who were born today include singer-musician Jose Feliciano, actress Amy Irving (“Carrie,” “Crossing Delancey”), former baseball player Randy Johnson, golfer Arnold Palmer and actress Judy Geeson (“To Sir With Love,” “The Eagle Has Landed”).
