Good morning. Today is the 251st day of the year. The Brooklyn Eagle of Sept. 7, 1884, printed some observations by a reporter who traveled to the city’s namesake, Breukelen, the Netherlands. The town did not impress him, but he commented on the dikes, the wooden shoes that people wore, the narrow houses and the ever-present windmills. He also was favorably impressed that many of the residents spoke English.

Well-known people who were born today include opera singer Angela Gheorghlu, singer-pianist Michael Feinstein, actress Julie Kavner (“Radio Days,” “Rhoda,” ‘The Simpsons”), actress Susan Blakely (“The Way We Were,” “The Lords of Flatbush”) and U.S. Senator Daniel Ken Inouye (D-Hawaii).
