Good morning. Today is the 254th day of the year. It is the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, “Attack on America,” when terrorist members of Al Qaeda hijacked four jet planes. They crashed two of the planes into the World Trade Center and one into the Pentagon (the fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers attempted to overcome the hijackers), killing more than 2,900 people. Several Brooklyn firehouses, most notably the Middagh Street firehouse in Brooklyn Heights, the Red Hook firehouse and Squad One in Park Slope, were devastated after many of their members after they were killed in the collapse of the Twin Towers.

Well-known people who were born today include singer-dancer Lola Falana, singer-pianist Harry Connick Jr., rapper Ludicris, actress Amy Madigan and rock singer Moby.
