Good morning. Today is the 262nd day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Sept. 19, 1902 reported that the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company, one of the ancestors of today’s transit system, planned to build an electric substation at Sands Street near Washington and Adams streets, part of an area that was later razed to make way for Cadman Plaza.  The plant, which produced alternating current, was designed to power a number of surface trolley lines on nearby streets.

Well-known people who were born today include actor David McCallum (“The Man From U.N.C.L.E.”), actor Adam West (“Batman”), singer-composer Paul Williams, baseball player Nick Johnson, Brooklyn-born comedian Jimmy Fallon and former baseball player Jim Abbott.
