Good morning. Today is the 265th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Sept. 23, 1902, reported on the Republican state convention at Saratoga and the Brooklyn delegation to the convention. The balconies at the main hall, the Eagle wrote, were mainly occupied by women, who did not yet have the right to vote. At that time, Brooklyn was mainly Republican, although that changed within 30 years as a growing number of immigrants entered politics. On the national scene, the Republicans were at the height of their power with Presidents McKinley, Roosevelt and Taft.

Well-known people who were born today include Brooklyn-born actor Scott Balo (“Happy Days”), model-actress Shari Belafonte-Harper, tenor Andrea Bocelli, singer Joan Jett (“I Love Rock and Roll”) and Hall of Fame baseball manager Tommy Lasorda.
